Kootenai Clinic’s
family medicine residency program
is excited to welcome Dr. Shupe to its staff. Dr. Shupe
recently moved back to northern Idaho after completing
his residency at UCLA.
Tell us about your family.
My wife is a psychiatric nurse practitioner and lactation
specialist. We have two wonderful young daughters.
Why did you pick your specialty?
I picked family medicine for the ability to contribute to
the health of individuals, families and my community.
What can patients expect when they show up for their first
appointment with you?
They can expect me to be an attentive listener who
works with an excellent team to provide compassionate
health care.
What are some of your hobbies?
I enjoy the outdoors, eating and staying active.
What drew you to Kootenai?
I am originally from northern Idaho. I grew up in
Moscow and completed my undergraduate degree from
the University of Idaho. I recently finished medical

school at the University of Connecticut followed by my
residency at UCLA. I wanted to come back to the area
to help improve the physician shortage in northern
Idaho and to contribute to the learning and training of
resident physicians who will be shaping the future of
medicine in Idaho.
