Kootenai Clinic Cancer Services, oncologist
Kootenai Clinic
is excited to announce its newest
oncologist to the community. Dr. Bartels recently
moved to northern Idaho from Iowa City, Iowa.
Why did you pick your specialty?
I loved oncology from day one. To me it came easy
because it felt like such a blessing to be a part of the
patient’s care and build that close relationship.
What can patients expect when they show up for their first
appointment?
They can expect a doctor that is open and under-
stands where they’re coming from. I view patient care
as a team and look for input. I’ve been trained by
some of the leading experts in newer treatments and
chemotherapy.
What are some of your hobbies?
I love being outdoors. Fly-fishing, cycling, water sports
and skiing are some of my favorite things to do.
What drew you to Kootenai?
I first heard of Coeur d’Alene from a friend who lives in
Boise, and it sounded like a good fit. Once I came to
visit I fell in love with not just the area, but the com-
munity. The team, leadership and community member
support of this cancer program is amazing.
David Bartels, D.O., and Holly Pena, A.R.N.P., are two of the many
providers with Kootenai Clinic Cancer Services.
