Since 2002
Philip Kladar, M.D., has
provided care for general and vascular
surgery patients in northern Idaho. As
the need for these types of procedures
has grown, Dr. Kladar and Kootenai
Clinic teamed up to create a new clinic,
solely for vascular surgery patients.
“We didn’t have ideal coverage
for our vascular surgery patients,”
Dr. Kladar said. “Until the new clinic
opened, I was also practicing as a
general surgeon and was often on-call
for emergency and trauma patients
as well as doing vascular surgery full
time.”
Kootenai Clinic’s Vascular Surgery
Services specializes in the treatment
of the vascular system, or arteries and
veins. Vascular diseases are managed
by medical therapy, minimally inva-
sive catheter procedures and surgical
reconstruction. Kootenai Clinic’s most
common vascular procedures include:
Aneurysm repair
Treatment for carotid artery disease
Endovascular angioplasty and stenting
Arterial bypass
Surgical intervention for dialysis
Treatment of varicose veins
Along with the new office, Kootenai Clinic is excited
to welcome Christopher Ward, M.D., to the vascular
surgery team.
“It’s great having a partner to bounce ideas off of and
discuss cases,” Dr. Kladar said. “Having a second vascu-
lar surgeon will help to cut down
our wait times and bring in an even
higher level of expertise. Dr. Ward
is the only vascular surgeon in
northern Idaho to have completed
a fellowship in that specialty.”
Dr. Ward is originally from Reno,
Nevada, but joined Kootenai Clinic
after completing his fellowship in
Salt Lake City, Utah. He said he was drawn to Kootenai
for many reasons, the primary being the opportunity for
growth while being part of a friendly community.
“I liked the feeling I got when first visited Kootenai,”
he said. “Everyone was friendly and open, but also
very professional. I’m also excited by all the growth
Kootenai is going through; it’s exciting to get in on the
ground floor of a new program.”
