Opening Thoughts
Jon Ness, CEO
Wishing you good health,
Jon Ness, CEO
With the glow of a new year lingering,
improved health is still at the top of many
people’s minds. Goals like quitting smoking,
losing weight, eating better, and exercising
are always popular New Year’s resolutions.
Interestingly, these are also the main things you
can do to improve your heart health.
Kootenai Health made a resolution many
years ago to provide outstanding cardiovascular
care to our community. I am proud to say it is
a resolution we have kept and will continue to
keep in 2014.
Since 2003, cardiothoracic surgeon Robert Burnett, M.D., has been
performing open-heart surgery at Kootenai Health. This year, a second
cardiovascular surgeon, Theodore Koutlas, M.D., will be joining his team
so even more patients will have access to the care they need in their own
community.
In 2012, Heart Clinics Northwest joined Kootenai Health. With 21 phy-
sicians across numerous cardiology subspecialties, they provide excellent
access to cardiology services throughout northern Idaho and eastern
Washington. This year we are pleased to announce the opening of our
new practice location in Post Falls.
Last spring we celebrated the opening of our electrophysiology lab and
enhancement of our cardiac catheterization labs. Today, patients who
need pacemakers or defibrillators or have other heart rhythm issues can
receive the care they need in a place known for excellent patient out-
comes, outstanding nursing, and a friendly and caring staff.
As you read this issue of
Kootenai Health
magazine, I hope you are
encouraged to continue doing your part to adopt heart-healthy habits for
2014. All of us at Kootenai Health will be doing our part to make sure
the services you need for better heart health are readily available.
