Specialty:
Internal medicine/pediatrics
Medical school:

Married to Kevin Kim, M.D.
Why did you choose your specialty?
I found both internal
medicine and pediatrics so interesting, I couldn’t decide which
field to go into—so I picked both! Even now I really enjoy seeing
a range of different patients of all ages. It is wonderful to be able
to treat the whole family.
What are some of your hobbies?
I enjoy hiking withmy family
(including my children, ages 1 and 3), as well as biking, snow-
boarding and swimming. I’m also a cellist and an avid reader.
What drew you to northern Idaho/Kootenai?
This is such a
fantastic place to raise a family! We also love the natural beauty
of the area and the kindness of the people here.

Specialty:
Obstetrics-gynecology
Medical school:

School of Medicine

Park Ridge, Illinois
Married to Kevan McCrummen
Why did you choose your specialty?
I have always been in-
terested in women’s health issues. Because OB-GYN physicians
are often the only doctors women see, we are in a great position
to educate and empower women to take care of themselves and
their families. I enjoy the continuity with patients and building
relationships with them. I also love surgery and the variety that
practicing OB-GYN affords me.
What are some of your hobbies?
I enjoy reading, wine tast-
ing and experiencing new places, people and foods with my
husband and children.
What drew you to northern Idaho/Kootenai?
My husband
and I grew up in the Northwest and always wanted to return
after my training to raise our own children here. We enjoy the
outdoors and the lifestyle that is so easy to take advantage of
in a place like Coeur d’Alene. We have friends and are close to
family here. We feel lucky to get the opportunity to join a great
practice in a beautiful area.

medicine
Medical school:

Coeur d’Alene area
Married to Steve Malek, M.D.
Why did you choose your specialty?
I went into family medicine because I
loved so many aspects of medicine and
the diversity of the specialty. I liked the
idea of caring for patients and families
and helping them to become and stay
healthy. My father was a family medicine
practitioner and influenced me with his
devotion to his calling. He was a dedi-
cated physician and, though surgically
trained, grandfathered into the specialty
when it came into existence by passing
the board exam. He promoted a healthy
community in word and example.
What are some of your hobbies?
I
love to do all the things the area offers—
hiking, biking, horseback riding, kayak-
ing, downhill and cross-country skiing,
karate, gardening, and reading.
What drew you to northern Idaho and
Kootenai?
Though I grew up in Wyo-
ming, my family traveled regularly to
Sandpoint as my parents had at one time
considered moving there. Dad loved the
area and they had purchased property
overlooking Lake Pend Oreille, so we
came to visit every couple of years. Later,
after medical school, residency and serv-
ing in the national health service corps,
my husband, Steve, and I traveled here
to visit friends of ours (Tom Nickol and
Robin Shaw) who hadmoved here to start
an emergency medicine practice. It was a
spectacular fall, with the larch trees in full
glory, and Steve fell in love. He had never
been here before. The practice was ideal
for him, so we stayed and I practiced
part-time while raising our four sons.
