Modern Healthcare
conducts the program annually to
recognize outstanding employers in the health care in-
dustry on a national level. The magazine teamed up with
Best Companies Group, a Pennsylvania-based firm that
administers Best Places to Work programs nationwide.
The program collects information from employers
and employees. Employers complete a survey detailing
company policies, practices, benefits and demograph-
ics. Meanwhile, employees are asked (in an anonymous
survey) a set of detailed questions in eight core areas:
leadership and planning, culture and communications,
role satisfaction, working environment, relationship with
supervisor, training and development, pay and benefits,
and overall satisfaction.
Participation is open to all health care companies with
at least 25 employees, from providers, such as Kootenai
Health, to suppliers and associations. Employers are
grouped into categories based
on their number of employees;
large health care organiza-
tions are those with more than
1,000 employees.
