Kootenai Health
plans to break
ground on a $57 million, three-
story expansion by late summer
2014. It has been over 30 years
since Kootenai’s last major patient
care facility expansion.
As Kootenai has grown its
services to care for the patients and
families of northern Idaho, patient
volumes also have grown. Addition-
al space is needed to accommodate
this increasing number of patients
and to make room for improve-
ments to the existing facility.
The expansion will be located
on the east lawn and adjoin the
existing hospital. The first two
floors will include a family birthing
center, neonatal intensive care unit
(NICU), more patient rooms, a new
hospital entrance and registration
