You Can HelpToo! Support patients with cancer by donating to our cancer funds When you give to the Kootenai Health Foundation, you can choose where your donation is used. Whether you want to support research in our local community, the cancer patients receiving care here or simply the area of greatest need, your choices will always be honored. Here are three ways your gift can support the fight against cancer in our community. 1. GENERAL CANCER SUPPORT FUND: This fund can be used to support any need in the Cancer Services program. It helps support things such as new infusion chairs, so patients can be as comfortable as possible during their treatments, and programs that screen patients for breast, colon and lung cancer to help with early detection. 2. CANCER RESEARCH FUND: This fund provides needed support for cancer research in our community. It can help purchase special equipment needed for research or expenses related to participation in clinical trials. 3. CANCER PATIENT SUPPORT FUNDS (GENERAL AND BREAST): This fund helps patients with basic expenses while they are undergoing cancer treatment. One fund is available to help all patients, and one is specifically for breast cancer patients. Donations to these funds help patients buy gas so they can come to their treatment appointments, buy nutritional supplements and groceries so their bodies can stay strong, purchase prescription medications, and even cover their rent and utilities when they may be struggling without a regular paycheck. Handmade Love While all gifts come from the heart, some come from the hands as well. Two local organizations, Lemons of Love and the Bag and Boob Babes, create handcrafted items to help cancer patients during treatment and recovery. Lemons of Love creates care packages that help cancer patients with some of the side effects of chemotherapy, along with reminders of love and encouragement. Learn more at lemonsoflove.org . Bag and Boob Babes sew custom drain bags, which are used with the drain tubes patients need when healing from a mastectomy. They also make lightweight, comfortable “knitted knockers,” which can be worn in a bra following a mastectomy. Learn more at bagandboobbabes.com . Remember a life or mark a milestone Learn how you can make a gift of remembrance, mark a special birthday or commemorate a special achievement with a gift to the Kootenai Health Foundation.
