Marquita Brooks, PA-C Kootenai Clinic Orthopedics Tell us a little about you and your family: My husband and I are newly married with a little English setter puppy. I was raised in Idaho and met my husband while completing my undergraduate degree at the University of Idaho. We couldn’t be happier to be back in northern Idaho! Why did you pick your specialty? I have always had an interest in orthopedics because of my sports background. Orthopedics is a very rewarding specialty when you are able to fix injuries and watch a patient return to the activities they love doing. What can patients expect when they first meet with you? When patients first meet me, they can expect a compassionate provider who will work with them to provide the best care for their situation. What are some of your hobbies? My husband and I enjoy everything outdoors! There is a hobby for every season. We love backpacking, skiing, rafting, fly-fishing and hunting. What drew you to Kootenai Health? Kootenai Health has a culture of compassion and innovation I wanted to be a part of. I couldn’t be happier with the quality of providers and welcoming environment. What is your favorite healthy tip? Get outdoors and keep an active lifestyle! Call (208) 625-6111 to schedule an appointment. Michael Magee, M.D. Kootenai Clinic Hospital Medicine Tell us a little about yourself: I am so happy to be a part of Kootenai Health and part of the hospitalist group here. I have been so impressed with everyone I have met. I grew up in the Kansas City, Missouri area and went to undergraduate and medical school at the University of Kansas. After medical school, I went into a four-year residency in internal medicine and pediatrics. I moved to Wisconsin after residency to practice at a clinic for four years, prior to coming back to the Kansas City area to work in a clinic practicing general medicine taking care of adults and children. Why did you pick your specialty? In 2008, I decided to change careers a little bit and transitioned to become a hospitalist in a suburb of Kansas City: Overland Park, Kansas. I became a hospitalist because I love helping people with critical illness in the hospital, when people need help and healing the most. Later, I went to work at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in 2013 as a hospitalist because some colleagues I knew from residency worked there. What can patients expect when they first meet with you? When patients and families meet me, they will find I take a vested interest in their health and well-being. I try to treat my patients like I would want a doctor to treat my family. I strive to include the Kootenai Health care team to provide the best care for my patients and exceed the patients’ and families’ expectations. What are some of your hobbies? One of the things that drew me to Coeur d’Alene was the outdoor activities available here. I love to hike, camp, fish, use my smoker grill as well as garden. I try to stay physically active and look forward to getting involved with the community’s many opportunities to do so. What drew you to Kootenai Health? I was drawn to Kootenai Health because of this philosophy of putting the patient first, and the culture of the organization. I appreciated how cohesive the hospitalist group and the rest of Kootenai Health is. What is your favorite healthy tip? Even the smallest healthy habit changes made today can lead to bigger health benefits in the long term. KH . ORG 11
