Rachel Noriega Raindrops on Roses Gratitude “In daily life we must see that it is not happiness that makes us grateful, but gratefulness that makes us happy.” —David Steindl-Rast As the CEO of Kootenai Health, it is my job to consider how things here work. Understanding how individuals and departments work together and how changes in the market will affect northern Idaho are all part of the job. One happy byproduct of this effort is the opportunity to witness good work from so many perspectives. Here are just a few for which I am grateful: I am grateful for everyone working to provide primary care and acute care in our community. This includes doctors, advanced practice professionals, nurses and certified nursing assistants. It includes pharmacists, those who perform and read imaging studies, nutritionists, rehabilitation therapists, and specialists working in specialties you never knew existed—until you need them. It also includes many you might not think of who work in purchasing, quality improvement, accounting, human resources, training and many more departments. I am grateful for those who are providing other kinds of care as well. In assisted living facilities, from senior apartments to skilled nursing and memory care facilities. Support groups that provide an opportunity to learn from others and find encouragement. Health clubs, gyms and our local parks departments, which encourage us to get up and move—one of the most beneficial things we can do to maintain, or rediscover, good health. I am grateful for those whose generosity helps enhance the care available here. People giving to the Kootenai Health Foundation have helped expand facilities, brought enviable technology to northern Idaho, and most importantly, improved the lives of their families, friends and neighbors. I am grateful to those who came before us. It was their foresight to establish a community hospital and their discipline to choose a wise financial course. Finally, I am grateful to you, for trusting Kootenai Health to care for you and your family. We are grateful—and happy—to be your community hospital. Wishing you good health, Jon Ness, CEO 4 August 2018 Kootenai Health 2003 Kootenai Health Way Coeur d’Alene, Idaho 83814 KH.org (208) 625-4000 Kootenai Hospital District Board of Trustees Terence Neff, M.D., Chair Mic Armon, Vice Chair Neil Nemec, M.D., Secretary/Treasurer Katie Brodie, Trustee Robert Colvin, Trustee Thomas deTar, M.D., Trustee James Eisses, Trustee Teri Farr, Trustee Administration Jon Ness, Chief Executive Officer Karen Cabell, D.O., Chief Clinical and Quality Officer Jeremy Evans, Executive Vice President of Operations Walter Fairfax, M.D., Kootenai Clinic President Daniel Klocko, Executive Vice President of Human Resources Ron Lahner, General Counsel Taylor Reichel, M.D., Vice President, Medical Affairs Patricia Richesin, President, Kootenai Care Network Joan Simon, Chief Nursing Officer Ryan Smith, Chief Information Officer Kim Webb, Chief Financial Officer Executive Regional Editor Kim Anderson Regional Editor Andrea Nagel Cover photo Andrea Nagel Published as a courtesy of Kootenai Health four times a year.
