Meghan Gregg, FNP Kootenai Clinic Diabetes and Endocrinology Tell us a little bit about you and your family. My husband and I have two little boys, and life can be a little busy. My boys are the fourth generation of Greggs that have lived in the area. We love the downtown area and enjoy all things outdoors. Why did you pick your specialty? I have always been drawn to diabetes and endocrinology. I find this specialty interesting, challenging and rewarding. Diabetes management is complex and requires customization to each individual patient. I love dismantling a problem, solving the mystery and finding a way to make it better. What can patients expect when they show up for their first appointment with you? When I first meet a patient, I want to learn about their story. “Tell me about your life. Where are you from, what do you like to do? What motivates you and inspires you? Are there things that are working well? What aspects of your disease frustrate you?” I like to connect with my patients and feel that human element. My aim is to come together to solve problems, alleviate frustrations and achieve goals. I want my patients to feel that they can tell me anything. I enjoy building relationships so that together we can celebrate the highs, work through the lows and continue the journey together. What are some of your hobbies? I’ve fallen in love with hot yoga. It’s amazing the workout you can get with just you on the mat. Yoga has made me more aware of, and connected to, my body, and it makes my mind and soul feel so good! I especially love that it’s called a yoga practice, meaning you never have it mastered and continually practice. What drew you to Kootenai Health? I’ve been a part of the Kootenai Health family for many years, even before going to nursing school. Throughout my different job titles at Kootenai, I’ve observed the quality of staff and people who work for this organization. As a member of this community, my family and I have health care needs and end up being patients ourselves. This makes the care personal, and I want to be involved in giving top-notch care to the people who come to our clinic. I never know whose precious family member I may be caring for. Our patients deserve excellence, and I want to share in that responsibility. What is your favorite healthy tip? I’ve realized more in recent years the importance of self- care. It’s amazing how as mothers, wives, employees and friends we can get so busy taking care of others that we make compromises for ourselves. I have become very protective of my own time and the things that bring me joy. I’m a better person if I spend a little time each day focusing on myself.
