You can access MyChart through the internet or through an app on your smartphone. Within MyChart, you are able to access everything you need for your health care, all in the palm of your hand. Q How does using MyChart make health care easier? MyChart allows you to request appointments, view health summaries and notes from clinic or hospital visits, see test results, request prescription renewals, pay bills and, most importantly, send and receive messages with your care team. The app even sends notifications to let you know when a new result or message is ready to view. Ask the Expert Q What features do you recommend patients try? One of the features that our patients love is proxy access. If you are caring for an elderly parent, he or she can arrange for you to have proxy access. You can then reread discharge instructions, review upcoming appointments or message the care team with any questions on behalf of your loved one. Another great feature is the ability to instantly share your record with other health care providers during emergencies, so your complete health information can be shared and emergency personnel can make better informed decisions on your care. Q How do test and imaging results work? When you have a test or imaging procedure completed at Kootenai Health, the result will be released into MyChart as soon as it is available. It is important to remember that because of this speedy delivery, you may see the results of a test or procedure before your provider. This may include sensitive test results that require next steps. Sometimes it is difficult to fully understand what these results mean. In these cases, your provider’s office will be in touch with you (typically within one business day) to discuss your results and answer your questions. Q How does the updated electronic health record platform benefit providers? MyChart is the patient portal function of our updated electronic health record system, called Epic. Everything a provider needs is in one place. This makes patient care more efficient and seamless. Q How is MyChart secured? We take great care to keep your health information safe and private. At your clinic visit you will be given an activation code that is unique to you. With that code, you will create your own private user name and password. All MyChart messages are stored within your private account, so no one else will see them. Q Is there a fee to use MyChart? MyChart is a free service for our patients. How do I sign up? You will be sent a MyChart activation code after your next Kootenai Clinic or Kootenai Health visit. From the email, you can log in and create your own user name and password. If you were not issued an activation code, you may call your primary care clinic to get one, or visit mychart.kh.org to sign up without a code.
