KH . ORG 19 The North Idaho Cancer Center, completed in 1987 , was the Kootenai Health Foundation’s first capital campaign. In 2006 , the Cancer Patient Support Fund was established; since then more than 2,200 patients have benefitted from this resource. In 2008 , Cancer Services expanded to Sandpoint and the Cancer Services facility was built in Post Falls. Since then Kootenai’s cancer program has been recognized as a Breast Center of Excellence, a Certified Lung Cancer Screening facility, received QOPI certification, COC accreditation, and more. Your Donations Make a Difference Cancer Services In 2017 , 8,000 surgical cases were performed in the main operating room. The expansion, completed in 2018 , will allow that to grow by at least 20 percent . Three operating rooms were added, bringing the total number of operating suites to 11 . In all, the department grew from 17,350 square feet to 33,450 square feet. In 2001 , Outpatient Rehabilitation, the McGrane Center, opened. Since then, thousands of patients have been served through physical, occupational and speech therapy, as well as exercise and therapy programs in the pool. Heart Center 2016East Expansion Kootenai Health added 45 hospital beds in the first phase of its east expansion and will add another 32 by next spring. This will bring Kootenai’s total bed count to 331 . 14,000 additional patients are cared for in these beds each year. In 2003 Kootenai’s Heart Center opened its doors. Each year Kootenai Health physicians and staff conduct nearly 300 open-heart procedures, and almost 3,000 cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology studies improving and saving lives. Surgical Services Expansion Festival of Trees The Foundation’s largest event, beginning in 1988 , has raised over $6.7 million since the beginning and involves over 10,000 community participants annually. With the vision and inspiration of Ace and Ellen Walden, this was established in 1989 . It is an eight-room home away from home for patients and their family members. It has provided an average of over 1,500 nights of lodging per year. The new center, the Hospitality Center currently being constructed, will have 20 rooms and is projected to serve two to three times as many families—including children—as the existing facility. WaldenHouse Outpatient Rehabilitation FamilyBirthCenter andNICU In 2017 , more than 1,800 babies were born and over 3,000 days of care were provided in the NICU. Also in 2017, the NICView cameras provided by the Foundation saw 22,274 logins from 33 states and 10 countries ranging from Canada to Nepal. Kootenai’s emergency department averages 52,000 visits per year—one of the busiest emergency departments in the state. Kootenai’s expanded emergency department, completed in 2018 , now has the ability to see 60,000 visits per year. EmergencyDepartment Expansion
