How did you end up in Coeur d’Alene?” Then we will move on to the medical issues. What are some of your hobbies? Skiing, climbing, cycling, piano and traveling to unusual places. Bryan Garrett, NP Kootenai Clinic Lung and Asthma Tell us a bit about you and your family: My wife, Meagan, and I were born and raised in the Inland Northwest. After getting married, we moved to Phoenix while my wife attended graduate school and I pursued my bachelor of science in nursing, both at Arizona State University (go Sun Devils!). I attended Boise State University to become an acute care nurse practitioner. We returned home to Spokane nine years ago to raise our boys, Liam and Sean, in the place where we grew up. Why did you pick your specialty? I have always been drawn to the science and compassion of critical care and pulmonary medicine. I enjoy work that incorporates a balance of innovative technology and compassionate care for patients. I started in health care as a radiology assistant and patient transporter almost 18 years ago. In the past 15 years, I have had the privilege of working as a nurse in many bedside and administrative positions, most recently as a regional nursing director for critical care. I have enjoyed administrative work throughout my career, but bedside care is where my true passion lies. I am excited to return to direct patient care. What can patients expect when they first meet with you? I strive to provide a personal experience tailored to the needs of each patient in his or her current state of health. My goal is to guide patients toward better health, however they define that journey. What are some of your hobbies? I love to camp, fly-fish and hunt. I enjoy road cycling and training for century bike rides. As a family, my wife and boys and I enjoy playing a variety of strategy board games. What drew you to Kootenai Health? Kootenai’s reputation of being a growth- and innovation- driven care center. My interactions with the team, and camaraderie I saw between the team members during my interview process, solidified in my mind that this was an environment I wanted to be a part of. What is your favorite healthy tip? Perfection can often be the enemy of progress. You don’t have to make every health change all at once. Determine what is best for you in your current circumstance and set realistic and achievable goals. Celebrate each choice, each step, of your progress. Schedule an appointment: Call (208) 625-3555 .
