Whydidyoupick your specialty? I had a hard time picking a specialty and actually did a year of training in family medicine before switching to internal medicine and then completing a cardiovascular disease fellowship. I found, however, that I also really enjoy understanding diseases and processes at a deeper level. In particular, I found the cardiac catheterization laboratory fascinating. It’s incredible the information we can gather and procedures we can do through small catheters. What canpatients expect when theyfirstmeetwith you? I believe that patients do better when they understand their heart condition, why they take the medications they do, and why they need tests or procedures. You can expect that I will try to explain your condition and treatment in understandable terms. What are some of your hobbies? I like to read, when I can, and enjoy hiking, mountain biking, and downhill and cross-country skiing. What drewyou to Kootenai Health? I did my internal medicine residency in Spokane. My husband and I both have family in this region and were hoping to come back to the area. When I was in residency, I did rotations with some of the cardiologists in our group that were in Spokane. They were great mentors and role models. I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to join them. What isyour favoritehealthy tip? Be active and get outside when you can!
