12 Amanda R. Liggett, M.D. Kootenai Clinic Lung and Asthma Tell us a little bit about you and your family: My husband and I moved here from Virginia, where we both completed our residencies and fellowship training. We have two young kids who keep us busy at home. We are excited to live in a place where it snows regularly and to teach our oldest child to ski this winter. Why did you pick your specialty? I was drawn to the diversity of practice, multidisciplinary camaraderie, and hands- on procedural skills that pulmonary and critical care medicine require to take care of people when they are in their greatest time of need. What can patients expect when they first meet with you? Especially in the pulmonary clinic, patients should expect that I will ask a lot of questions, not only about their medical and family history, but travel history, exposure to certain animals and potential inhaled exposures. These detailed histories are an important part of the diagnostic process, help determine the cause of their lung problem and inform treatment options. What are some of your hobbies? Hiking, biking, snowboarding and scuba diving, but at this point in life, mostly trying to keep up with my toddler and baby. What drew you to Kootenai Health? We knew we wanted to live in the mountains in a friendly environment with plenty to offer for young families. We found it here in Coeur d’Alene. What is your favorite healthy tip? Don’t breathe anything into your lungs except air. Schedule an appointment: Call (208) 625-3555 . I attended University of Texas (UT) San Antonio for a year before transferring to UT Austin to complete my undergraduate degree. After that, I attended UT Houston Medical School, where my wife and I eventually met. We are now the proud parents of two young daughters. Why did you pick your specialty? I chose family medicine due to the ability to form therapeutic relationships with patients over many decades in order to help create a deeper level of trust and understanding. I take pride in preventing and addressing health concerns in the office so patients can spend more time doing the things they love. What can patients expect when they first meet with you? I will typically go over your medical history and medication list very thoroughly so I can get up to speed on your current state of health. We can then schedule a follow-up visit at some point for an annual physical or wellness visit in order to review routine blood tests and preventive guidelines such as cancer screenings and immunizations to ensure you are up-to-date. What are some of your hobbies? My wife and I love to hike, ski and take long walks through the neighborhood with our children. I have also played the violin since I was 8 years old and am currently learning the piano. What drew you to Kootenai Health? I originally joined Kootenai Health through the Family Medicine Residency program, where I truly
