KH . ORG 11 Elizabeth Hankinson, M.D. Kootenai Clinic Lung and Asthma Tell us a little bit about you and your family: I am married with two children—a 22-year-old daughter and a 4-year-old son. Why did you pick your specialty? I began my career in anesthesiology. While completing my anesthesiology fellowship in critical care, I felt I found my true passion and am now board- certified in both anesthesiology and critical care. What can patients expect when they first meet with you? A big smile and the biggest advocate for their safety. What are some of your hobbies? Baking, running and traveling. What drew you to Kootenai Health? When we were looking to relocate to the Spokane area for my husband’s job, Kootenai Health came highly recommended. Once here, we had dinner with my now-colleagues, and meeting all of the remaining wonderful staff on my interview day sealed the deal for me. I could not be happier with my choice. It is a supportive and friendly environment to work in. What is your favorite healthy tip? Everything in moderation! Schedule an appointment: Call (208) 625-3555 . Alexandra Hyndman, PA-C Kootenai Clinic Neurosurgery Tell us a little bit about you and your family: My husband and I grew up in Spokane; we lived in Seattle for five years before wanting to return home to be closer to family. We are happy to be back in the area where we grew up and getting back to doing what we loved when we used to live here. We enjoy skiing in the winter at all the local mountains and going out on the lake with family in the summer. Why did you pick your specialty? I enjoy being in a surgical specialty. I get to evaluate patients in the clinic and assist with their operations and then follow them after surgery. Being able to see their progress and watch them heal is rewarding. What can patients expect when they first meet with you? I enjoy meeting new patients and evaluating their symptoms and complaints to try to come up with a comprehensive treatment plan for them. What are some of your hobbies? I grew up skiing and continue to ski all over the northwest and abroad. What drew you to Kootenai Health? I wanted to work for a community hospital that supports their staff and works to give high-quality care to the community that supports them. What is your favorite healthy tip? For me personally, it’s trying new recipes to cook at home. I enjoy trying new things and being healthy can start with knowing what is going into your meal. Kootenai Clinic Neurology Tell us a little bit about you and your family: We have two young kids who rule the house, and a dog that never misses a nap. Why did you pick your specialty? I read Oliver Sacks’ The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat in high school and have been fascinated with the brain ever since. Neurology is such a fast-growing field, we have seen many new medications hit the market in the last few years. We are constantly learning new things about the brain! What can patients expect when they first meet with you? A detail- oriented approach to care, and friendly, caring staff. What are some of your hobbies? Hiking and photography.
