« Previous Page Table of Contents Next Page »AT KooTenAI HeAlTH, We PR Ide ourselves on excellent care delivered from the heart. We are always seeking ways to make the care we provide even better. Sometimes that means enhancing services; other times it means bringing an entirely new service to our community. For the coming year, we’ve set our sights on cardiac care. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. In fact, theAmerican Heart As-sociation attributes 1 in 4 deaths to heart disease. In 2003, thanks to your support and the work of the Kootenai Health Foundation, our com-munity made huge strides in fghting this silent killer with the opening of Kootenai Heart center.
Since that time over 1,000 open-heart procedures and countless lifesaving cardiac catheterizations have been completed at the Heart center. Kootenai Heart center has been recognized as a Blue distinction center for cardiac care and consistently outperforms the standards established by theAmeri-can college of cardiology and the American Heart Association. our Heart center isn’t just setting the standard for care locally, but nationally as well. Todaywe are preparing to expand its services by bringing electrophysiology, “Heart Rhythm,” to Kootenai Heart center. Adding this service will allow us to perform procedures such as implanting pacemakers and diagnosing and treating tachycardia (abnormal heart beats) right here in northern Idaho. I invite you to read more about Heart Rhythm on page 6 in this issue of Kootenai Health magazine. I also hope you will join us at the Kootenai Health Foundation’s Festival of Trees, nov. 25 to 28, when our friends and neighbors come together in support of local cardiac services.
Together we can continue to make the best health care available in northern Idaho.
Wishing you good health,
Jon Ness, CEO
