Tell us a little about yourself— such as your hobbies, family and interests. I’m married to my wife, Rebecca. We have three kids—lilian, 8 years; Adeline, 4 years; andAlistair, 11 months. I enjoy computers and technology, being outdoors (hiking, hunting, snowboarding, fshing and so on), and cooking.

Why did you choose your spe-cialty? What about it is most interesting to you? I chose my spe-cialty because I was interested in the surgical andmedical side of ear, nose and throat problems. I like fnding solutions to patient’s problems, the types of surgery involved and the procedural focus. There are many opportunities for good outcomes and improving patients’ lives.

Howwould you explain your job to someone who doesn’t under-stand what it is? We deal with any problembetween the collarbone and the skull.

Where did you work before Koo-tenai? I worked at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore.

Why did you decide to come to Kootenai and northern Idaho?

I’m originally from Wyoming, and missed the West, mountains and outdoors. I wanted to raise my

family in this region. I really liked the hospital medical community, and the job was a great ft for what I wanted.

What should patients expect when they come to see you? How should they prepare for an appointment? They should expect a caring, competent physi-cian visit. Together we’ll focus on fguring out answers and how best to solve problems with straightfor-ward discussion, compassion and professionalism. Preparation for an appointment is best done by bringing along any outside medical history.
