6 Britney Helgeson and her husband, Nick, show up to their regularly scheduled obstetrics appointment, smiling and holding hands. This particular visit is a short one, just a few minutes so Britney can receive a progesterone injection to help prevent premature labor. Britney, who is pregnant with her third child, already experienced two preterm deliveries and two stays in the Kootenai Health neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Despite two challenging births, the couple is looking forward to baby No. 3. “My two boys are my joy—I can’t imagine life without them now,” Britney said. “My pregnancies with them were both healthy and good; I just went into labor early. The care we’ve received from Dr. Meltzer and the NICU team at Kootenai made me feel confident in our decision to have another baby.” IN TOUGH TIMES Parents of premature babies trust in the comfort and guidance of Kootenai Health’s NICU team By Andrea Nagel Finding Peace
