Trusted trauma care “I was thankful they felt comfortable doing the procedure at Kootenai,” said Dr. May. “Often children Lachlan’s age would be transported to Spokane, and I wasn’t sure if we had that kind of time. I know and trust our trauma program and am glad we were able to keep him in Coeur d’Alene.” Following his procedure, Lachlan stayed in the hospital for two days before going home. Because the pediatric unit was being used to support COVID-19 patients, Lachlan stayed in the postpartum unit on the first floor of the hospital. His family came to his window for daily visits and even brought their dog to say hello. While Lachlan missed the remainder of ski season and had to gradually ease back into other activities, both he and his family are thankful his accident was not worse and that he was able to receive the care he needed quickly. “Lachlan’s entire medical team was phenomenal,” Dr. May said. “I can’t imagine him having a better outcome. I am so grateful for the care we received and proud of our trauma program at Kootenai Health.” Lachlan and his family are thankful he was able to receive the care he needed quickly.
