4 LookingAhead 10Years “The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.” —Helen Keller Early in 2020, the Kootenai Health board of trustees and administrative team began our annual strategic planning process. This planning was especially relevant because Kootenai Health was also slated to update its vision statement, which will guide our work for the next 10 years. By early March, COVID-19 was bringing so many changes at such a rapid pace, our strategic planning was temporarily placed on hold and we focused our energy on responding to the pandemic. As the year progressed, we resumed normal operations in tandem with our COVID-19 responses. On a positive note, our strategic plan now includes COVID-19 considerations that would have been conspicuously absent if our plan had been created before the pandemic occurred. From our strategic plan, we have also developed a new vision statement. Our vision incorporates three overarching themes we will be working to achieve over the next 10 years. It puts them together in one statement that summarizes where we are going. The first theme is connected . Kootenai Health has numerous initiatives underway and on the horizon aimed at providing greater connection and a simplified, high-quality patient experience. Next is transforming . The team at Kootenai Health is especially skilled at finding creative solutions to tough problems. We will continue our work to transform the health care experience from the inside out. Our final theme is premier . Over the past 10 years, Kootenai Health has achieved a number of national designations for exceptional care and organizational performance. We plan to continue that work to provide all patients with a health care experience that is second to none. Each of these themes works independently and also builds upon the others to create a vision that is relevant, inspiring, and bold. Kootenai Health 2030: One connected team, boldly transforming the health care experience to become a premier medical destination . Kootenai Health has a history of setting big goals and seeing them through to completion. We are excited to continue that legacy and watch the positive developments it will bring to our organization and our community.
