smartphone users speculated that new phones
are outdated almost as soon as they are sold. The
pace can be a little unsettling for folks who grew
up in a world where the same black rotary-dial
telephone served a family for years! Without
question, the technology in this area is moving
faster than ever before.
Technological advances in health care are
equally impressive, but for a different reason. With
new phones, even if you travel a long distance,
you can take your home or office with you. With
new health care technology, the benefit is being able to receive the care
you need
closer
to home, without having to travel to another city, state or
specialty center.
In this issue of

magazine, you can read about robotic
surgeries, new techniques for managing pain, advances in cancer therapies
and Kootenai Health’s growing neonatal intensive care program. We are
showing technology at its best—technology that makes our world more
convenient when we are physically vulnerable and need that convenience
the most.
Adventures in travel are wonderful—especially when you can take a new
smartphone along on the trip. But when you are ill or injured and feeling a
bit less adventurous, it’s comforting to know that the most advanced health
care in the region is available right here where you need it: close to home.
