Opening Thoughts
Jon Ness, CEO
After several months of mutual discussions and
due diligence, Kootenai Health is pleased to have
become the 30th member of the Mayo Clinic Care
Network. Kootenai is the first network member in
the Pacific Northwest and the first in the state of
Idaho.
One of the great things about this relation-
ship is that Kootenai Health will continue to be
independent and locally owned. We will have the
same publicly elected board of trustees, and we
will continue to be your community hospital—all
while we embrace one more method for improving care in our community.
We believe the people of Kootenai County have entrusted us to improve
the level of care that is available here. Sometimes that means adding new
services, such as heart rhythm services and neonatal care for fragile new-
borns. Sometimes that means bringing new physicians to our community for
enhanced local care. Now, with the announcement of Kootenai’s member-
ship in the Mayo Clinic Care Network, it means forging a new collaborative
relationship with one of the most trusted organizations in health care.
Through the Mayo Clinic Care Network, local physicians can consult with
nationally recognized specialists. Through these interactions, patients with
unique medical conditions who may have had to travel for care in the past
can now get access to world-class expertise without leaving the community.
The world of health care is full of complexities. At Kootenai Health, it
is our goal to bring resources, providers and relationships together so that
world becomes easier for our patients and their families to navigate. As
we begin this new chapter as a member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network,
we look forward to bringing our community the advantages of Mayo Clinic
resources without the complexity of unnecessary travel and expense.
World-class expertise—now available in our little corner of the world.
Wishing you good health,
Jon Ness, CEO
